In line with the government’s latest guidance, our approach is focused on protecting the most vulnerable in our communities.

We and our partners are committed to providing support to these groups – the elderly and those with underlying health conditions.

Advice and guidance

We have set up a coronavirus web page that includes links to the latest Public Health England advice and government guidance. We will update any Oxford-specific advice on these pages. We strongly urge you to keep referring to the guidance for the latest information.

The most recent government advice recommends social distancing to protect the vulnerable, including avoiding large scale events and unnecessary social contact in pubs, theatres and restaurants. We know that this raises questions for many community associations and groups about whether they should continue their activities.

Contact the communities team

In that context, you will have the detailed understanding of the scale of your activities and the need that they serve within the community, and you may feel that cancellation creates greater harm than benefit. We would be happy to discuss with you if you are unsure how the government guidance applies to specific activity or community centre usage. Contact our communities team. However we would encourage, given PHE guidance, that pragmatism and the health of the community take priority in your decision making.

Updates

As more details emerge from the government and PHE we will consider the implications in more detail, including the use of community centres/spaces, and we will update you and online sources as and when the situation changes. If you have any questions in the meantime please get in touch.
