Seacourt Park and Ride extension update - July 2020

Published: Thursday, 23rd July 2020

Oxford City Council is working to provide additional parking spaces at Seacourt Park and Ride to ensure that it meets the needs of workers and visitors to the city.

The existing car-park at Seacourt consistently reaches full capacity. The extension, which is currently under construction, will provide 595 additional parking spaces that will help to reduce traffic and congestion on the Botley Road and into the city centre. Additionally there will be a new bus terminal and cycle storage. The work is being delivered in partnership with Oxford Direct Services (ODS).

Following a winter of exceptional weather and the impact of COVID-19, the project has experienced delays totalling 17 weeks.

The delays caused by the wet weather and associated additional ground works and fees have cost an additional £272,000. When other costs are taken into account this has resulted in an expected overall budget increase of approximately £245,000 to a total of £5,401,122.

We regret any inconvenience that the construction works may cause to the users of the existing car park.

Seacourt Park and Ride provides a convenient way to access the city centre without having to drive in. This much-needed extension will make Seacourt an even better facility for workers and visitors following the increase in capacity and will bring additional benefits by reducing city centre congestion, which will also help to reduce harmful vehicle emissions.
