Oxford is known as the most romantic city in the UK. But where is the most romantic spot in Oxford?
Oxford City Council is looking for the public’s help to answer the question – and will be giving away prizes, including a night at Malmaison, to the best suggestion.
Members of the public can nominate their most romantic spot by sending a message on Twitter or Instagram using the hashtag: #LoveinOxford. Facebook users can reply to the City Council’s #LoveinOxford messages on our Facebook page.
The best nominations will be put to a public vote in early February, before the winner is announced on Valentine’s Day.
The person who nominates the winning spot will receive a night at Malmaison, a cheese board and wine from 1855, his and hers gift sets from Ansari Boutique and Burrows and Hare, and luxury chocolates from iScream Gelateria.
People can watch the conversation across Twitter, Instagram and Vine live by visiting our Social Media Wall.
Oxford has been named the most romantic city in the UK in several polls:
- In 2014 dating website misstravel.com named Oxford the fifth most romantic city in the world. Only Bali, Phuket, Austin in Texas and Barcelona were named more romantic
- In the same year, supermarket chain Morrisons named Oxford as the UK city “with the most pulling power”
- And in 2011, users of search engine whichbudget.com voted Oxford the seventh most romantic city in the world. Oxford was only beaten by Paris, Venice, Rome, Barcelona, Prague and Florence
Laurie Taylor, Oxford City Council’s city centre manager, said: “We are so lucky to live in the most romantic city in the UK, and I think sometimes people forget just how beautiful Oxford is.
“This competition is all about reminding people of the many reasons there are to visit Oxford – from the history and museums, to the culture and shops – and encouraging people to fall in love with their city all over again.”
Members of the public have until midnight on Thursday 4 February 2016 to nominate their most romantic spot in Oxford. The vote to decide the most romantic spot in Oxford will take place from Saturday 6 February until Saturday 13 February 2016.
