School Sports Development

real PE at home is a FREE resource which includes an online programme which supports families to be active, play and learn together. It includes a programme for children in Early Years and Key Stage 1 with 12 themes, 6 areas, over 250 activities and challenges and 1000s of hours of fun activity and learning. For children in Key Stage 2 there are carefully selected personal best challenges, skills and games designed for the home and garden. Both programmes are fully supported with intuitive, daily and weekly guidance in addition to an option to choose your own themes and activities. Even more video, audio, imagery and interactive elements content will be added over the next couple of weeks too!

There are so many benefits to being active, not only to our physical wellbeing but also to our emotional and mental health, especially in such testing times for all of us. We hope that the ideas help support your school and families to stay fit, healthy and learning together in the coming months.

To access real PE at home, schools should send their name, school name, county, postcode and email address [email protected]  By signing your school up for free, you’ll receive your own unique log in details and we can share simple analytics with you such as how many families are being supported.

Clean Air

School children could lead the way to greener travel to school in Oxford. Many children know about air pollution and the effects on their health, but some parents and carers need persuading that their car journeys contribute the problem.

We know that some families don’t have a choice- but we want to encourage those that do to use alternatives to the private car.

We are working to cut air pollution in various ways.   As part of this Oxford City Council and Oxford Friends of the Earth are now inviting children from primary school years 3 to 6 across Oxford to design a banner to encourage healthier, greener travel on the school run.

Mini Grey, a well-known Oxford children’s author and illustrator will be one of the judges.

The winning school’s entry will receive a prize of £250 worth of play time equipment. The winning banner will also be displayed at school entrances across the city, as well as on social media.

Please see the Terms and Conditions for the details.

Taking part in the competition will also help your school’s chance of winning one of Oxford Friends of the Earth’s Schools ‘Green Badge’ Award.

The winners of the competition will be announced on Clean Air Day, 18 June 2020.

If you require more information about the competition, please contact Oxford City Council’s Air Quality Team at [email protected]

We very much look forward to receiving your school’s entry in the coming weeks.
