The Reminiscence Outreach Project
The Museum of Oxford Reminiscence Outreach Project is a popular scheme delivering reminiscence sessions to groups of older people in Oxford city.
Our Reminiscence Officer will bring a collection of museum objects to sessions to stimulate discussions, encouraging participants to communicate with each other by sharing stories and memories in a fun and interactive way.
The sessions last for approximately 1 hour and groups can chose from a range of themes, including 'Fun and games', 'All dressed up' and 'Making your own entertainment'. Download the leaflet below for more information:
If you would like to discuss the project or are interested in hosting a session then please contact the Reminiscence Officer.
Prescription for Reminiscence Scheme
The Prescription for Reminiscence scheme is designed to engage older people who are not familiar with the activities and events for older people at the Museum of Oxford and Oxford Partner Museums.
The Reminiscence Officer will make contact with all referrals to the scheme to discuss Museum activities and groups provided for older people in Oxford including Memory Lane at the Museum of Oxford and Those Were The Days at the Oxfordshire Museum in Woodstock. Advice will be given on how to join in and get involved.
Oxfordshire County Council's Services
The Museum Service's 'Hands On Oxfordshire's Heritage' team can deliver reminiscence outreach sessions to groups of older people beyond Oxford across the County of Oxfordshire.
Oxfordshire Libraries are developing a range of resources that have been designed to be used primarily to support reminiscence among the elderly and those suffering from memory loss.
