Introduction to Northway
Northway is an area on the north-east side of Oxford, inside the ring road and bound by the A40. Northway was originally a small outlying hamlet to the Royal Borough of Old Headington.
The estate as we know it today stems from the development of 570 council houses (including Plowman Tower, Oxford's first multi-storey block) in 1951. In the region of 1,500 people currently live in Northway.
There is a feeling in Northway among residents that it is a forgotten estate with few facilities compared to the larger estates.
