Fraud comes in many different forms and fraud committed against us affects the way we pay for services.
Housing Benefit Fraud
The Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) is responsible for investigating Housing Benefit Fraud. Any suspected Housing Benefit fraud should be reported directly to the DWP on GOV.UK.
Social Housing Fraud
We have a large housing stock and along with the city's housing associations, we vigorously investigate any report of tenancy fraud. This includes sub-letting, applications for housing and right to buys.
Single Person Council Tax Discount Fraud
Anyone liable to pay Council Tax who is the only adult aged over 18 living at the property, is entitled to claim a 25% discount of their annual Council Tax charge.
If you are aware of a property where the resident may be receiving this discount but there is more than one adult living at the property, please let us know and we will investigate it.
Council Tax Reduction Scheme Fraud
The Council Tax Reduction Scheme is run by us for the benefit of those on low incomes to assist in paying Council Tax. This scheme replaced the old Council Tax benefit scheme. People on this scheme have an obligation to notify us if changes take place that could affect their entitlement, but some fail to do so. If you suspect anybody, please tell us.
Report fraud for investigation
Our Investigation Team are all highly trained officers with many years of experience. We depend on members of the public reporting suspicions and take every one seriously. So if you suspect anybody of committing fraud against us then please report it.
It is your money and your services that are at risk so please report it to us.
You can also report on our Mobile App or using the contact details below.
All contact is treated in the strictest confidence.
