Taxi ranks progress
New Road / Little Clarendon Street
On 15 November 2018 at the County Council meeting, a report was put forward recommending the implementation of additional taxi ranks in the city:
New Road Taxi Rank is now open and can be used (it is clearly marked, although signs still need updating)
- New Road rank for 2-3 taxis, operated 24 hours (Northeast side; from a point 7 metres northwest of the southeast property boundary of the Conservative Club, south-eastwards for a distance of 12 metres)
Little Clarendon Street Taxi Rank is now open and can be used (it is marked with the relevant road markings and signpost)
- Little Clarendon Street rank for 3 taxis, operated from 6.30pm to 8am (Southeast side; from a point 110 metres east of the eastern kerb line of Walton Street, eastwards for a distance of 17.5 meters)
Oxfordshire County Council approved the proposals for the Taxi Rank on High Street at the County Council Cabinet Member Decisions meeting on 27 June 2019. The details are:
- High Street rank for 2 taxis, operated from 8am to 6.30pm (day time) - West end of the Covered Market loading bay, and the existing bus stop removed (by Covered Market)
*Implementation of this rank will mean that the other High Street rank will be removed (South Side between Turl Street and King Edward Street)
The City Council will now run a formal consultation to implement the taxi rank. Then works will be carried out to implement the rank.
You can find full details of the proposed changes and visual plan of the rank allocation on the County Council website.
On 14 February 2019 a meeting was held at Oxfordshire County Council. Officers made a decision that the current temporary arrangements for Taxis accessing Queen Street and the evening / night usage of taxi rank were made permanent. The County Officers did not approve all day Sunday access to Queen Street taxi rank.
