Debit and credit Card Payments in licensed vehicles
Debit and credit Card Payments in licensed vehicles
As you are aware since 13 January 2018 businesses are no longer permitted to impose surcharges for paying by debit card or credit card.
A business is a person's occupation, profession, or trade, whether they are an individual, partnership or an organisation, and as such includes the Taxi and Private Hire trade.
It is unlawful for a Taxi or Private Hire driver to charge any additional amount (surcharge) for customers paying by debit or credit card.
Customers should not be charged any more than the amount which is displayed on the meter or the agreed fare. The pre-agreed fare cannot include any additional charge for a debit or credit card payment.
