Out of hours noise problems

We operate an emergency telephone service to deal with noise problems.  This on-call service is available to residents of Oxford that are experiencing noise problems.  

Operating Hours

  • Monday to Wednesday - 11pm to 1am
  • Thursday and Sunday - 11pm to 2am
  • Friday and Saturday - 11pm to 4am

Making your complaint 

Callers to the service will initially speak to staff at a Call Centre who will either refer the call to our on-call Duty Officer or to our offices the next working day.   

When you ring, describe the noise and where it is coming from. Please provide your full address and telephone number, be as accurate as possible and describe the location if it is going to be difficult to find.  For legal reasons we cannot accept anonymous complaints however, your details will be kept confidential during the investigation

Once your details and information about the noise complaint have been taken, the Call Centre will contact the Duty Officer who may then contact you to discuss further.  If the Duty Officer does undertake a visit at night, they may take an hour to arrive at your property.

The Noise App

Instead of contacting the Out of Hours service, it may be preferable to use a software application that can be downloaded from Apple and Android app stores.  The free application allows residents to record noise issues on their smartphone or tablet and then sends the recording directly to the City Council to investigate.

The new system means investigators can receive noise recordings almost immediately and act more quickly if the noise is particularly bad.
