Universal Credit

Universal Credit is paid differently from any benefits or tax credits you may get now:

• It is a single monthly payment
• It is paid directly into your bank or building society account
• It includes any help towards paying your rent
• You need to claim Universal Credit online

As housing benefit is one of the benefits and tax credits that Universal Credit replaces, if you claim Universal Credit your housing benefit claim will usually end. You will need to tell Universal Credit how much your rent is if you want help to pay the rent.

Because it is different to existing benefits and tax credits, you will need to get ready for Universal Credit.
