How we approach some of the issues arising from rough sleeping

Ways you can help

Our vision is that nobody should have to sleep rough in Oxford, and we have a multi-agency approach to helping people in need on our streets. We work with a range of partners to provide the accommodation and support that is needed to achieve this, and to prevent people from returning to the streets.

Many people sleeping rough have complex needs including substance dependencies and mental health issues. Trying to engage with and support them while reducing the impact on the wider public of some of their behaviours is one of the most challenging areas of work for our officers and our partners.

You can find details about how you can support our partners on our website at www.oxford.gov.uk/tacklinghomelessness.

We believe that everybody has a responsibility to help end rough sleeping. If you are concerned about someone sleeping rough, please contact Oxford Street Population Outreach Team on 01865 243229 or email Outreach.Oxford@mungos.org. The outreach team is not an emergency service, but all calls and emails will be followed up as soon as possible.

You can also report a rough sleeper through the national www.streetlink.org.uk website.

If you believe a rough sleeper’s health is in immediate danger, please call 999.
