Artworks by artists from Oxford, Bonn, Grenoble, Leiden and Perm on the theme 'Material World'.

This international exhibition will include work from four Oxford artists as well as an artist representing some of our twin cities : Bonn, Grenoble and Perm.  Although art exchanges have been going on for years this is the first time that artists from our different twin cities have worked together. The theme is Material World and each artist has developed the theme in a different way.

Eric Margery from Grenoble is presenting an installation of jelly fish made from paper.  He uses paper in much of his work, so that he is talking about the environment without using new materials.  A similar approach is made by Madi Acharya-Baskerville from Oxford who uses found objects which hold a memory and then she reinvents them to become something of the future. Diana Bell also uses found man-made materials and combines them with natural materials, so that we look at them in a new way.

Susanne Krell from Bonn is showing work from a  project which took her to many different places in the world.  She records the history of the buildings she visits by taking rubbings or frottage and combines these with photographs. Jonathan Moss from Oxford creates beautiful prints and paintings which explore the importance of quiet contemplation in a chaotic world.

Brook and Black are a partnership of two Oxford artists showing a video projection. Their work often has themes of home and for this exhibition they take the theme to its minimal meaning and show the movement of a simple bed sheet with all its associations.

And finally Inna Rogova from Perm shows a slide show of her ceramic work which focuses on seeds and nuts that have hidden spaces inside them.

The Opening Event for the exhibition is on Saturday 14 October from 2-4.30pm, including live music.

    Exhibition open daily, 12-6pm.  Late opening: 15 Oct 12-7pm; 20,24,28th Oct 12-8pm.

The exhibition forms part of a weekend of international culture - for more details, see our events page.
