Mark Davies, a local historian with a particular interest in Oxford’s waterways, will share his knowledge of historic connections between the Oxford Canal and some nearby city-centre pubs. This twilight walk and talk will start at the Lighthouse and finish in the cosy Study in the Oxford Retreat with a drink and time to warm up.
Please meet Mark at the Lighthouse pub 10 minutes prior to the beginning of the walk. Remember to wrap up warm. The walk will last approximately 30 minutes, followed by a talk of similar duration in the Study of the Oxford Retreat, with additional time for questions. At the Retreat, your ticket can be exchanged for a drink (bottled beer, house wine or soft drink).
You must be over 18 to attend this tour.

We know the cost of this ticket is more than the advertised price, however using this fantastic booking website comes at a cost. We are passing on the handling fee so that you have the choice to book in advance and avoid disappointment on the day.

Our third community exhibition will feature stories behind Oxford’s queer spaces. From our local gay and lesbian pubs to printed publications, from support organisations to the Gay and Lesbian Community Centre on St Michael’s Street, we will showcase individuals’ memories and experiences of these spaces through oral histories, photographs and objects. The exhibition has been created in partnership with the Tales of Our City project and Oxford Pride, and co-curated by members of Oxford’s LGBTIQA+ community.
