    While the Museum of Oxford’s galleries are undergoing a major re-development, visit our small but perfectly formed ‘Micro-Museum’! The only gallery dedicated to the history of the City, this temporary exhibition in the Town Hall Gallery holds as many of our objects as we could fit in and also includes a community created display that will change throughout the year, featuring the Windrush Years - Next Generations until 23 March 2019.

    Please note, the Micro-Museum is not open on Sundays.

    Visit our first community exhibition in the Micro-Museum. See our Caribbean living room exhibition and find out about the experiences of the Windrush with the voices of local people and costumes from BK LUWO. Created in partnership with ACHKI (Afrikan Caribbean Kultural Heritage Initiative) and BK LUWO.

    This exhibition will be available Mondays to Saturdays.

    Key facts about the HMT Empire Windrush:

    • British troopship anchored at Tilbury Docks in Essex on 21 June 1948
    • It was 500ft and 3inches long
    • On 21 June 1948, the Empire Windrush carried 1,027 passengers
    • More than half on board stated their last country of residence was Jamaica

    Anglo-Saxon Oxford with Christ Church Cathedral

    Two hour family workshop including Saxon storytelling and drama, discovering objects and Anglo-Saxon costume, brass rubbing and making brooches. Includes a family tour of the Cathedral and a FREE Anglo-Saxon city trail map to take away.

    Booking is essential and via Eventbrite.


    Workshop 1 10-12 (Please arrive at Tom gate by 9.45am)

    Workshop 2: 1-3pm (Please arrive at Tom Gate by 12.45pm)

    What is happening?

    Join the Museum of Oxford and Christ Church Cathedral for a two hour family workshop on the Anglo Saxons. This exciting morning or afternoon out will include:

    • Saxon storytelling and drama

    • exploring objects and costumes

    • brass rubbing

    • making Anglo-Saxon brooches

    • family tour of the Cathedral

    There will also be a FREE Anglo-Saxon city trail (to include the Museum of Oxford's Micro-Museum) to take away and complete at your leisure.

    All money raised through this events goes towards the development of the new Museum of Oxford and Christ Church Cathedral.

    We know the cost of this ticket is more than the advertised price, however using this fantastic booking website comes at a cost. We are passing on the handling fee so that you have the choice to book in advance and avoid disappointment on the day.


    £5/child (children must be accompanied)

    Accompanying adults free (1 adult per family group due to space restrictions)

    Recommended for ages 4-11

    Please note that all participating children need to have a ticket.

    Tickets can either printed off or downloaded on to your mobile device. Please show at the main entrance to Christ Church on St Aldates for entry via Tom Gate.


    Please note that there will be a 10 minutes break mid-way through the workshop. You may bring a small snack for your child if you like.
