FAQs

Where can I find out if there is any contaminated land in Oxford?

There are many areas of Oxford, which have been used for industrial and commercial purposes and may have resulted in the land being polluted. Many of the old industrial areas were cleaned up when the land was redeveloped. There may still be polluted land, which if redeveloped will require remediation as a condition of the planning permission. We are also obliged by law to inspect the Oxford City area for possible contaminated sites, and if we can show that the condition of the land is causing significant harm to human health or ecosystems, we must declare the land as Contaminated Land and place the information on a public register. So far we have not declared any land in Oxford as Contaminated Land.
