FAQs

How can I get rid of maggots?

If you do find maggots in your wheelie bin, most of them will go when your bin is emptied.

You can use a fly spray in your bin, but we also advise you to wash your bin out once it has been emptied. If you do not want to do this yourself, there are professional bin cleaners who offer this service (the Council does not provide a bin cleaning service).

Maggots develop from fly eggs which are sometimes laid when food is left out in the house. Please keep all food covered or refrigerated.

Food waste should be double-wrapped before placing in the bin.
