Our Planning and Building Control services are split into two areas.
Planning
The Planning Service operates in two divisions.
Planning Control and Conservation deal with applications for development:
- the Planning Control section handles applications from people and bodies wanting to put up new buildings, to alter the structure or use of existing ones or to display advertisements.
- the Conservation section handles applications and provide advice for properties that are in Conservation Areas or are Listed Buildings
Planning Policy set out the general policies which applications for development will be judged against. These are:
- the Adopted Oxford Local Plan 2001-2016 which sets out detailed policies and proposals for how land in Oxford will be used
- the Local Development Framework which is the new system that is replacing the old Development Plan system (we are responsible for preparing the portfolio of Local Development Documents that will form the Local Authorities Framework by 2007)
- the Policy Documents and Publications section which includes documents that inform the Adopted Local Plan and/or the Local Plan Review
- the West End AAP Examination page which includes details of the Examination programme.
Building Control
The Building Control section ensures the health and safety of people in and around buildings by providing functional requirements for building design and construction through Building Regulations and Building Act 1984 legislation.
