Conservation

Central government expects local planning authorities to play a key role in the protection and management of historic buildings and areas.  Oxford City Council works towards this by:

  • Dealing with applications for listed building consent
  • Dealing with applications to carry out works to protected trees and trees in conservation areas
  • Providing advice on the repair, maintenance and alteration of historic buildings
  • Making grants available to assist in the cost of repairing and renovating historic buildings and structures
  • Advising on proposed changes within an historic area, including development proposals
  • Advising on matters affecting the archaeology of the city
  • Protecting trees that have amenity value
  • Giving arboricultural and landscaping advice on development proposals
  • Working with external partners to deliver a high quality environment
  • Improving knowledge and understanding of the importance and value of the historic environment
