Junk the Jargon

What is the Junk the Jargon Campaign?

 Junk the Jargon Advert

Junk the Jargon is a campaign that aims to reduce the amount of jargon in council communications, and increase the use of Plain English.

We are inviting anyone to report webpages that they feel are not clear, or contain council jargon.

How can I report a webpage?

You can use the form at the bottom this page to email the details of the webpage you think is not clear. Simply tell us the page and we will do the rest.

If you would like to give us more information about what is unclear, or offer any suggestions then you are more than welcome to do so.

What will the council do with the information?

We will draw up a list of reported pages that will then be published on our website. We will keep the list updated with the progress that we are making on reviewing and correcting the page where needed.

Please note that in some cases terms are used for legal reasons, and changes may not be able to be made.

What words and phrases should be avoided?

The Local Governmentt Association have come up with a list of words and phrases that they think we should avoid using in our communications material. Visit the 100 Bannded Words page of the Improvement and Development Agency (I&DeA) website for the full list.
