Welcome to Oxford

I'm a Councillor, Get Me Out of Here

'I'm a Councillor, Get Me Out of Here' our online initiative to strengthen links between City Councillors and young people has been a big success.

The event took place during Local Democracy Week from 8 - 19 October 2007.

More than 850 young people from three local schools - Cherwell, Oxford Community School and Peers - had the chance to put questions to five of our councillors, either through, school visits, live online 'chats' or by email.

The young people then voted for their favourite councillor, based on what they had said.

Councillor Richard Huzzey collected the most votes at the end of the two-week period and was crowned the winner.

Councillor Huzzey said, "I am really please to have won. I really enjoyed taking part in the initiative and it was good fun working with the four other councillors.

"We all got involved in the online discussion and going into the schools to meet the students. It was good to work together and watch each other battle to win the students votes."
