Two benefit cheats given community orders

On 15 August 2008 at Oxford Magistrates Court Ms Ellicott and Miss Prytherch were sentenced to 12-month community orders with a requirement to do 150 hours unpaid work. Ms Ellicott was also ordered to pay Oxford City Council's costs of £267.20
Ms Ellicott had previously pleaded guilty on 21 July 2008 to being overpaid Housing Benefit on £3,118.73 and Council Tax Benefit of £636.73 from 20 November 2006 to 30 July 2007 after failing to declare her change in circumstances.
Miss Prytherch had also previously pleaded guilty on 21 July 2008 for failing to declare that she had been working since May 2006, and her son had been working since June 2006. This resulted in her being overpaid Housing Benefit on £3405 and Council Tax Benefit of £709 between 8 May 2006 and 5 March 2007.
