Alexandra Park Play Area Reopens for Fun Day
Released on 23 Jul 2008
The Alexandra Park Friends Group, made up of local parents and basketball players, will celebrate the re-opening of the play area in Alexandra Park, Summertown by holding a "Fun Day" on Saturday 26 July.
The Friends Group hopes that the event will raise local awareness of this useful green space. Local businesses are supporting the Fun Day by donating their services, food tasters and prizes.
Oxford City Council is working with the Friends Group to improve this area. The Friend's Group will bid for funding to create a redesigned park that accommodates the needs and views of the whole community.
Laura Evers, Chair of the Friends Group, says "We do not want to just replace the old play equipment, we're dreaming of a natural, playable space for the whole community, with more seating, safer equipment and possibly give local artists the opportunity to showcase their work."
Bob Timbs, Executive Board Member of Leisure and Sport says, "We're proud to support local groups who work hard to shape their own communities.
"We want to make Alexandra Park a place for everyone to enjoy and I hope that many people show their support and join in the fun by attending the event at the park on 26 July."
