Get Involved with Lord Mayor's Parade
Released on 1 Apr 2008
The 2008 Lord Mayor's Parade will be going ahead on Bank Holiday Monday 26 May and this year we want it to be an event to remember.
After the parade, there will be a fun-filled picnic event at Hinksey Park with the theme of celebrating Oxford's past and present.
We are urging groups and individuals to get in contact with our Events Officer on 01865 467284 if they would like to get involved in the Parade itself or the Mayor's Picnic event in Hinksey Park afterwards.
Andy Kneebone, Events Officer at Oxford City Council, says: "We have the opportunity to make this year's parade a fantastic event that involves the whole Oxford community and is a great day of celebration."
"We are encouraging as many interested individuals and groups as possible to come forward and get involved with the event. I am keen to build the parade element so I would love to hear from groups who have ideas about how they can add colour and excitement to the procession. And of course there is a great opportunity for people wanting a stall or commercial pitch in Hinksey Park.
"By working together with the local community we can make the Lord Mayor's Parade and Picnic a truly memorable spectacle for everyone in Oxford to enjoy."
The parade will take a new route in 2008 and will not involve any motorised vehicles. It will set-off from Radcliffe Square at 11.30 am, move into Broad Street, via Catte Street, then down Cornmarket, St Aldate's, Abingdon Road and finish in Hinksey Park.
The Lord Mayor's Picnic event in Hinksey Park will include a stage for performances by local bands and artists. It is hoped that there will also be a mixture of charity and local producer stalls so families can purchase picnic ingredients or bring their own, and enjoy the entertainment while picnicking in the park. The event in Hinksey Park will run from 12noon to 6pm.
Anybody interested in getting involved with the Parade or Picnic should contact our Events Officer on 01865467284.
