Latest NewsRecycling shake up - We want your views Oxford City Council wants the public's views on a proposed new recycling scheme for the city. We are considering introducing a three-bin system along with other ways of making recycling simpler. We will be consulting with residents to understand their needs. The new three-bin system for a typical householder would consist of a smaller green wheelie bin for mixed refuse, a new blue wheelie bin for mixed recyclables (including paper and glass) and a new caddy (bucket with a lid) for food waste. The new system would give householders more choice, as far as possible. New recycling outlets are opening in Oxfordshire which present fresh opportunities for recycling in 2009. We will still collect each container on a fortnightly rotation. Councillor John Tanner, City Executive Board Member for a Cleaner, Greener Oxford, says, "The new three bin system would be simpler, would make it easier to recycle and would collect food waste for the first time. We are determined to clear up the mess and increase recycling in Oxford. "We have taken a long hard look at waste and recycling in the city. We would now like to introduce a three-bin system in the middle of 2009 but first we want the views of the public." Residents will be able to give their views on the plans through public meetings, and surveys that will take place in October and November. Residents can also contact the Council direct by calling 01865 252900 or by emailing recycling@oxford.gov.uk They could also contact their local ward councilor to give their opinion. Contact details can be found on theĀ Councillors page of our website. Copyright © Oxford City Council 2008 |
