Two of Oxford's Street Wardens have been shortlisted for a National Award for their dedication and commitment to young people. Mandy Wallington and Louis Arundell-Walker were nominated for their work on empowering young people within their communities. Based in Wood Farm and Barton, Mandy and Louis engage and work with young people by visiting schools, youth centres and other events. They also set up a football loan scheme (with a refundable deposit when the football is returned) and the Junior Warden Scheme for 8 - 13 year olds. Mandy, who joined Oxford City Council as a Street Warden in November 2006, says: "I am really pleased to be nominated, but the thanks should go to the youngsters themselves for their input into the community." Louis, who joined the Council as a Street Warden in May 2005, says: "It's great to be nominated for such a good cause. It can only make the scheme get stronger and hopefully empower young people to greater things."
