Released on 30 Jun 2008
Children and parents from Elms Road Nursery School and Children's Centre, Botley, will meet Councillor Susanna Pressel, Lord Mayor of Oxford on Wednesday 2 July at the Town Hall, to celebrate their recent award of "Healthy Schools" status.
Headteacher, Mrs Alison Brockliss says: "'We are very proud that our work on "being healthy" has been recognised by this award, and even more excited to be able to travel to share it with the Lord Mayor.
"Our summer topic is "Out and About", but we never imagined we would be visiting such a beautiful building."
The children are very committed to leading a healthy lifestyle and will walk or travel by bus to the Town Hall. When asked why healthy eating is important to them, their replies included:
"If you don't eat breakfast you won't have any energy."
"Healthy foods have roughage and help you get big muscles."
"Does a pear have vitamins and minerals in? That's why I like them."
"You shouldn't eat chocolate all the time - you should eat oranges".
Lord Mayor, Councillor Susanna Pressel is a member of the Children's Centre advisory group, and has been able to advise on ways of meeting the needs of the 0-5 year olds and their families in the West Oxford area.
Lord Mayor of Oxford, Councillor Susanna Pressel says: "Many congratulations to the school and the children's centre for gaining "Healthy Schools" status.
"I'm very pleased to be able to celebrate this with a group from the school in the Lord Mayor's Parlour and to show them round some of the most interesting parts of the Town Hall.
"I hope the award will inspire them to lead active and healthy lives from now on."
