Latest NewsDraft West End Area Action Plan sent to the Secretary of State Oxford's West End Area Action Plan (AAP) has been submitted to the Secretary of State. The AAP provides the planning framework for the renaissance of Oxford's West End - a currently under-used quarter of the city centre that does not match with Oxford's international reputation. Councillor John Goddard, Leader of Oxford City Council, says: "This is an exciting and visionary document and one which will create a sustainable urban community with a sense of vibrancy and inclusion. It will also respect the historic nature of Oxford. "The West End renaissance is not just about buildings and their use, but about creating a community that can mature." It is expected that around 700 new homes will be constructed across the West End, along with up to 15,000m2 of new private office space. Much of the urban environment - the streets and spaces - will also be improved as a result of the AAP. The AAP has been prepared after extensive consultation with the public. Another six-week consultation period runs until Friday 27 July and the AAP was sent to the Secretary of State on Friday 15 June. During this period, representations can be made in relation to the AAP. An independent inspector will examine the AAP and assess it against nine tests of soundness. Any representations that are made should correspond to one of the tests of soundness. Details of the tests of soundness can be found on the representations form. The renaissance is being organised in partnership with Oxford City Council, Oxfordshire County Council and the South East England Development Agency (SEEDA). The role of the partnership is to design and steer the overall West End programme.
