Latest NewsTree policy consultation We would like to hear your views on our Draft Tree Policy, which details plans for managing and maintaining the city's trees. The aim of the policy is to ensure that the tree stock is retained in the most proactive manner while ensuring the health, safety and well being of the public and property. Members of the public are being invited to comment on the document and complete an online survey. Councillor Caroline van Zyl, Executive Member for a Sustainable Environment, says: "Our trees are a huge asset to our city. They are as much a part of our famous skyline as the city's spires. "This policy is aimed at ensuring that public safety is uppermost in our minds while responsibly managing the tree stock in order that maximum value from this asset is maintained. "Under this policy we will also ensure that work is carried out only where necessary. Felling of trees will be the very last resort and, if it is necessary, we will make every effort to ensure that any trees we do lose are replaced." Oxford City Council is responsible for the management and maintenance of approximately 100,000 trees on parks, allotments, cemeteries, countryside and section 42 highways. The deadline for comments and the survey to be completed is 12.00 noon on Monday 17 December 2007. For more information on the consultation document visit our Parks Consultation page.
