Released on 20 Feb 2007
Taylor Woodrow have been selected as the preferred house builder for the Rose Hill re-development scheme.
Taylor Woodrow, a leading UK homebuilder, were selected through a competitive tender process. Representatives from the Tenant Development Group were involved in their selection.
The Rose Hill Development Project will involve the demolition of 97 Orlit type properties on Rose Hill, as well as six privately owned former council properties.
Councillor Patrick Murray, Executive Member for Improving Housing, says: "I welcome this announcement and I am very pleased that we have a developer on board for this important scheme which will see the re-development of Rose Hill.
"I am sure that with Taylor Woodrow on board, the scheme will now deliver the improvements that we and the residents are looking for."
The partners in the project, Oxford City Council, Oxford Citizens Housing Association and the existing tenants are looking forward to working with Taylor Woodrow.
Jonathan Higgs, Chief Executive of Oxford Citizens Housing Association, says: "This is an innovative scheme mixing contributions from Oxford City Council, OCHA, and the developer to do two things - deliver high quality affordable homes for the people of the City, and provide a springboard for the regeneration of the Rose Hill area. OCHA is committed to working with the people of Rose Hill to make this project a success."
David Bray, Regional Land Director at Taylor Woodrow, says: "We are absolutely delighted to be involved with Oxford Citizens Housing Association, Oxford City Council and the residents of Rose Hill in this important regeneration project and we hope to start work later this year."
The re-development will deliver about 254 new homes, 100 will be social rented housing, 41 will be for shared ownership and some 113 for private sale.
The project also includes the construction of new sheltered accommodation to provide 26 one and two bedroom flats for older residents who need support.
The Orlits, which are concrete panel construction, were built in Rose Hill during the 1940s.
The outline timetable for the redevelopment is as follows: -
- The development contract is to be agreed in spring 2007.
- The Planning Application to be made in summer 2007.
- Start on site for the affordable housing autumn 2007.
All the affordable housing is to be completed within two and half years, with the whole scheme including the private housing to be completed within five years of the project commencing.
