Released on 27 Aug 2008

 News Terry Shrimpton Retires

Terry Shrimpton will be missed in the Grandpont area of Oxford when he retires next month. He has been keeping the streets clean between Folly Bridge and Redbridge for almost 44 years, and takes a great deal of pride in his work.

Terry, who isĀ 63 years old, started working with Oxford City Council in September 1964 when he was a resident of Fair Mile Hospital near Wallingford. Terry was one of a small group of people from the hospital who participated in a scheme to help them to rehabilitate back into the public way of life. Terry loved the area he was first given to work in and has continued to keep the same area clean for the last 43 years.

Terry Shrimpton says, "I will miss my colleagues when I go and I've always enjoyed coming to work, it's a really lovely part of Oxford to work in."

Colin Bailey, Head of City works says, "Terry has always worked hard at maintaining a litter-free environment in the Grandpont area of Oxford and we'll be very sorry to see him go.

"We hope he thoroughly enjoys his well earnt retirement."

Terry is a train enthusiast and is looking forward spending more time making long rail journeys around the country during his retirement.
