Oxford City Council staff survey

Released on 4 Jan 2006

Since our CPA assessment councillors and staff have worked hard to improve the way Oxford City Council works through the Improvement Plan and following a recent MORI survey, there have been some key improvements.

Nearly 50 per cent of staff are proud to work for the Council and 37 per cent say that they would speak highly of its services compared to only 16 per cent in 2002.

And overall 68 per cent of staff are satisfied with working at the Council up 26 per cent from 2002.

MORI found a significant improvement in satisfaction with many aspects of working life and on many indicators Oxford City Council now performs better than the local authority average.

Anne-Marie Scott, Human Resources Business Manager, says: "We have worked hard to improve the way the Council operates with the introduction of the Improvement Plan, and these results show that that work is paying off.

"The Plan looks at the key areas that the Council needs to improve and we have worked hard to make a difference and these results reflect our continuing drive to improve services.

"Many areas have improved with some results being double what they were in 2002. These included opportunities for personal development, staff feeling valued and recognised for the work they do, and staff feeling that the Council is genuinely committed to developing employees.

"We will be continuing this work and working with the Improvement Plan to ensure that we continue to provide efficient services to our customers and hope that the next survey will show even more improvement."

MORI, stated: "It is very encouraging to see that many of the key indicators have improved significantly since MORI carried out the previous survey."

The survey, which is available to staff via the intranet, also asked staff how they felt about working hours, benefit packages, work colleagues, and job security, which were all up from 2002.

The survey was issued during July and more than 50 per cent of staff responded. The next MORI poll will be carried out in 2008.
