Oxford's Christmas Festivities

Released on 20 Nov 2007

 News Christmas

Come and celebrate the start of the festive season with Oxford City Council's magical family event in Broad Street where you can sample Christmas fare, be entertained by street performers and witness the thrilling Heliosphere.

The Heliosphere is a giant helium balloon, which will float above Broad Street with a trapeze performer suspended below performing twists and turns to music.

The "Turn it On" event begins at 10am on Saturday 24 November and Broad Street will be closed and filled with dozens of market stalls.

You will be able to watch wreath making demonstrations and sample seasonal goodies. You'll also be able to buy toys, jewellery, art and craft gifts ready for Christmas as well as enjoy a spit roast and mulled wine.

There will be plenty of street performers entertaining shoppers and visitors throughout the day and the finale event will be the Heliosphere performance.

The Christmas markets will be open from 10am until 7.30pm and the street performers will be entertaining throughout the day but the main event runs from 4pm until 7.30pm.

There are events happening in Oxford throughout December with carol services, Christmas markets and a charity ice hockey match. More details are available on ourĀ City Events page.

Throughout December, Oxford Ice Rink is open daily and for information on session times and charges, ring 01865 467000/2 or visit ourĀ Ice Rink pages.
