Park and Pay by phone
Released on 26 Nov 2007
Motorists won't have to worry about having spare change when they use Oxford City Council's pay and display car parks with the park and phone scheme.
The scheme means that people can use their mobile phone to phone or text to pay for their car parking using their credit or debit card.
There is also a facility so that motorists can receive a text message to let them know when their parking time is almost up.
And they will also be able to extend their parking session if they need to without dashing back to the car park.
Councillor Jean Fooks, Executive Member for a Cleaner City, says: "This system will see the end to people worrying about having the correct change for car parking.
"You will be able to use your mobile phone to pay for your parking using a debit or credit card which will make it easier for many motorists."
The system is being trialled and will be available in Worcester Street car park, Gloucester Green Underground car park, Oxpens car park, Oxpens Coach and Lorry park, Abbey Place car park and St. Clements car park.
If the scheme is successful it is hoped that it will be extended to other city council car parks.
Credit and debit cards can currently be used in the Westgate multi-storey car park during the operating hours of the control room and will not be part of the new scheme.
