Transfer of Park and Ride Sites
Released on 29 Apr 2008
It was agreed at Oxford City Council's Executive Board meeting on Monday 28 April to transfer the function of operating Oxford City Council's three Park and Ride sites at Redbridge, Pear Tree and Seacourt to Oxfordshire County Council.
A project plan will now be finalised and it is expected that the transfer will take place before the end of the year.
Tim Sadler, Executive Director for City Services, says: "This is good news for and everyone who lives in Oxford and for those who travel here to work or visit.
"This approach illustrates the determination of City and County Councils to work together more closely.
"The costs of running all the Park and Ride sites will be shared across Oxfordshire taxpayers and there will be a unified system of free parking, that we hope will encourage more users and improve congestion and Oxford's air quality."
Richard Dudding, Director for Environment & Economy at Oxfordshire County Council says: ' We welcome the City Council's decision to transfer their three Park and Ride sites to the County Council.
"This will enable all five to be managed on a common basis, free of charge, so users do not have to cope with different rules for different sites.
"We have worked very closely and co-operatively with the City Council throughout the process, and now look forward to agreeing the detailed plans for implementation.
"It will help with our shared objective of making travel into Oxford easier and ensuring that our Park and Ride is being constantly improved in the service it provides."
City and County Councils have agreed that they will protect the Terms and Conditions of staff that will be transferring.
Arising from this partnership approach, Oxfordshire County and Oxford City Councils have agreed to hold regular liaison meetings to take forward transport and parking issues in the city.
