Oxford Text2Speech™

We want you to 'Be A Reporter' and send us your news stories about Oxford, its people and the good work that goes on in your area every day. If you have an interesting story to tell, we want to hear from you, and your story could be posted on our website.

We get around 25,000 visits to our website every week so your story will reach a huge audience made up of Oxford residents and people who are looking to visit the city.

Your story could even be chosen to appear in 'Your Oxford', our Council newsletter which is delivered to every household in Oxford advertising Council services and community news. Visit our Your Oxford pages to view the most recent editions of our Council newsletter.

What kind of news story should I send in?

We are looking for news stories about your local area, people who work to change Oxford for the better and organisations that do good work in Oxford.

We would also like to hear from you if you are organising a community event in Oxford.

There are hundreds of people in Oxford who work or volunteer for community organisations and organise events that benefit the community so we want to hear from you. We want to help publicise your work and celebrate your success.

How should I write my story and how long should it be?

You should write your story in the style of any newspaper article. We want you to be the journalist and get your story across to the people of Oxford.

Your story should be a maximum of 500 words and you should also send us a picture relevant to the news story so we can post it on our website. If you are sending in a picture of a person not in a public place, please fill in and send us the Photographic Consent Form at the bottom of this page.

You can also include quotes from people involved in your story.

How do I send in a story to the Council?

To send us your news story, simply email the article to news@oxford.gov.uk making sure to attach a picture illustrating your story.

What if I have sent in a news story and it is not shown on your website?

We will endeavour to put as many stories as possible onto the website but we reserve the right to withhold certain items. Overtly political stories will not be used for example. The website editor's decision is final on these matters.

If your story is withheld from the site we will inform you why this has happened.

Where can I see my news story on your website?

If your news story is selected to go on our website, you will be able to view the article on our Your News Stories page. We will let you know by email if your article is used.
