Our museum is an essential starting point to discover the fascinating history of the City and University.

The story of Oxford is brought to life through original artefacts, college treasures and period room settings from pre-historic times up to the 20th Century.

Services and Facilities Description
Special Exhibitions The museum runs an exciting programme of changing exhibitions from Romans to Space travel.
Activities and Events Themed drop-in and workshop-led activities for all the family. Held at weekends and during the school holidays.
Education

Hands-on learning sessions for school groups. Visit the learning page on the Museum of Oxford website.

Tours Guided tours for all ages by prior arrangement.
Talks and Lectures Talks on a variety of subjects throughout the year.
Gift Shop Selling local books, crafts and souvenirs.

 

Admission charges and Opening Times

From 16 September 2006 admission to the museum galleries is FREE.

A small charge may apply to some activities, special events and guided tours.

Organised groups are very welcome to visit but we ask that all groups contact the museum to book in advance.

Access

The main museum entrance and areas of the museum are only accessible by staircases. Please contact the museum for details of alternative access arrangements.

How to find us

The museum entrance is off St Aldate's on the corner of Blue Boar Street. It is a short walking distance from Gloucester Green coach station and the Oxford Information Centre, and 10 minutes walk from the train station. Coaches and buses can drop and collect passengers at nearby Oxpens. Car travellers may leave cars all day at the park-and-ride car parks.
