Oxford City Council, Oxford Preservation Trust and Historic England wholeheartedly believe that Oxford's heritage is more than just a tourist attraction; it is an important resource that adds to the quality of our lives in many ways, providing an attractive environment, generating tourism, a catalyst for regeneration and stability in times of change.

Effective management of this historic environment is a high priority and this project adopts the principles of 'Constructive Conservation' to achieve our aims. This website is the first step to bring together the existing legislative and evidence based tools required to enable informed decision-making and unlock the potential to deliver the social, educational and economic benefits of Oxford's historic environment.

These pages explain the journey we have set ourselves, what we hope to achieve, and what we have achieved to date.
