What is a house in multiple occupation?

A house is in multiple occupation when 3 or more unrelated people live in a property sharing a basic amenity such as a toilet, bathroom or cooking facilities.

What does the Council do about houses in multiple occupation?

The aim of this service is to protect the health, safety and welfare of all occupiers by regulating the development, use, conditions and practices in relation to houses in multiple occupation (HMOs).
