Waste Information

 Landfill site image

In the UK every year every person produces about half a tonne of waste. 60% of rubbish that ends up in the bin could be recycled.

It takes 24 trees to make just 1 ton of newspaper.

How can recycling help?

Recycling dramatically reduces the amount of waste going to landfill. By recycling instead of making new items, precious resources are saved, energy needs are cut down, and pollution is reduced in the manufacturing and transport industries.

What are we doing?

The UK government has now set allowances for the amount of waste councils can send to landfill. If we do not reach the targets we will be fined.

Below you can see our progress to date:

Period % Recycled
2005/06   19.35%
2006/07  24.66%
2007/08  35.56%

Further details about how we are working with other councils in Oxfordshire to reach our targets please see our Policies and Plans pages.
