Reporting a smokey diesel

You can now report any sightings of smokey diesels if they are public service vehicles (buses and coaches) or heavy good vehicles (lorries). If you spot one of these kinds of vehicles producing a high volume of smoke note:

• type of vehicle (public service or heavy goods)
• vehicle registration mark
• company name
• where and when vehicle seen

There are then two ways to report this information to us:

• by filling in the smokey diesel vehicle report form and returning it to us using the details on the right of the page
• by filling in the online form at the bottom of this page

We will then forward the details to the Vehicle and Operator Services Agency (VOSA) who will contact the operator, and if necessary require them to provide evidence of an approved smoke test on the vehicle.
