Recycling Directory

Batteries, bicycles, computers, spectacles, light bulbs, tyres and many more items can all be recycled in Oxford. We have created a directory explaining where you can do this, which can be seen below or downloaded using the link below. Recycling contact details can also be seen towards the bottom of the page:

Bicycles Oxford Cycle Workshop, Redbridge, Freecycle. Contact us on 252900 to arrange special/bulky collections.
Books Bring banks, charity shops, Freecycle.
Bottles (glass) Kerbside collection (green box), bring banks.
Bottles (plastic) Kerbside collection (blue box), bring banks.
Cans (steel & aluminium) Kerbside collection (blue box), bring banks.
Cardboard (any) Kerbside collection (blue box), Redbridge, small amounts can go into your home composter.
Cards Kerbside collection (blue box), Redbridge.
Carpet Advertise locally, Freecycle, Redbridge Contact us on 252900 to arrange special/bulky collections.
Carrier bags Return to collection points at all main supermarket sites. Use for bagging refuse.
Cartons (food and drink) See 'Tetra Pak'

Cartridges (printer/copier)

Some charities will take these. Take back to point of sale. Accepted at Cartridge City, 115 Botley Road, Oxford OX2 0HD, Tel 204600.
Catalogues Kerbside collection (blue box).
CDs/DVDs Charity shops. Take to Orinoco. Send to reprocessors - listings on www.reuze.co.uk, Freecycle, Redbridge.
Chemicals (h/hold) See 'Hazardous waste'.
Christmas cards Collection points at supermarkets and shops: WHSmith, Tesco, TKMaxx. Blue Box
Christmas trees Collection points around the City during first two weeks of January, or take to Redbridge.
Clinical waste Contact us on 252900 to arrange special collections.
Clothes Kerbside collection (via red sack in green box), bring banks, charity shops, Freecycle, Redbridge.
Compost Kerbside collection (green bag), Redbridge or a home composter. Discount composters can be obtained from the RecycleNow website.
Computers Advertise locally, Oxfam, Freecycle, take to Redbridge. Contact us on 252900 to arrange special/bulky collections.
Cookers See White Goods. Contact us on 252900 to arrange special/bulky collections.
Cooking oil Small amounts can go into your composter. Otherwise place in refuse in sealed container.
Crockery/Cutlery Contact Emmaus Oxford, advertise locally, Freecycle, Redbridge.
Directories See 'Catalogues'. Blue Box
DIY waste Take to Redbridge (limit on quantities)
Egg boxes See 'Cardboard'. Not plastics.
Electrical equipment See Furniture, accepted at Redbridge for recycling. Contact us on 252900 to arrange special/bulky collections.
Envelopes (any) Reuse, compost, kerbside collection (blue box).
Fluorescent tubes Take to Redbridge
Food waste Cooked and uncooked food (with the exception of dairy products, meat and fish) can go into your composter.
Fridges/freezers Take to Redbridge, ask us to collect (252900) via bulky waste scheme.
Furnishings Advertise locally, charity shops, Redbridge.
Furniture Contact Emmaus Oxford, charity shops, advertise locally, Freecycle. Contact us on 252900 to arrange special/bulky collections.
Garden waste Kerbside collection (green bag), home composter available - see contact details, Redbridge.
Gas cylinders See Manufacturer. Take to Redbridge.
Glass bottles & jars Kerbside collection (green box), bring banks.
Glass - sheet Take to Redbridge to put in the landfill container (they is no longer a sheet glass container)
Handbags Kerbside collection (via red sack in green box), charity shops, Redbridge.
Hazardous waste Take to Redbridge, ChemCollect for residents without own transport.
Junk mail Kerbside collection (blue box).
Kitchen paper Can go into your composter.
Light bulbs Normal lightbulbs can be disposed of with normal rubbish. Fluorescent tubes and low energy lightbulbs can be recycled at Redbridge.
Magazines Kerbside collection (green box), bring banks.
Medicines Return to your chemist.
Metal Take to Redbridge.
Mobile phones Charity shops, return to retailer, Redbridge.
Musical instruments Charity shops, advertise locally, Freecycle, Redbridge.
Needles & syringes Contact us on 252900 to arrange special collections.
Newspapers Kerbside collection (green box), bring banks, soiled newspapers can go into your composter.
Oil - cooking See 'Cooking oil'.
Oil - engine Take to Redbridge.
Oil filters Take to Redbridge.
Paint Take to Orinoco, no longer accepted at Redbridge. ChemCollect for residents without own transport.
Paper - coloured Kerbside collection (blue box), put into your composter.
Paper - white office Kerbside collection (green box), bring banks, or use to wrap food waste. Shredded paper can go into your composter
Paper - wrapping Kerbside collection (blue box).
Plastic bags See 'Carrier bags'.
Plastic bottles (any) Kerbside collection (blue box), take to Redbridge.
Plastic - marg, ice cream & yogurt containers Take to Redbridge, bring banks.
Shoes See 'Clothes'.
Soil/stones/hardcore Take to Redbridge (limit on quantities).
Spectacles Take to charity shops, return to optician.
Telephone directories See 'Directories'.
Tetra-Pak cartons Take to Union Street Car Park, Tesco Retail Park, Mill Road, Ferry Sports Centre or Redbridge.
Textiles - clean See Clothes.
Timber/logs Take to Redbridge (limit on quantities).
Tools - garden/carpentry Take to Orinoco or Redbridge.
Toys Charity shops, advertise locally, Freecycle. Redbridge.
TVs Take to Redbridge.
Tyres - bicycle Take to Oxford Cycle Workshop.
Tyres - car & motorbike Take to Redbridge (there is a charge).
White goods Contact Emmaus Oxford, advertise locally, Freecycle. Contact us on 252900 to arrange special/bulky collections.
Yellow Pages Kerbside collection (blue box), Redbridge.

If an item is not listed, we either cannot collect it or we do not know of a way of recycling it locally.
