Welcome to Oxford

Recycle Week 2008

Celebrate Recycle Week 2008 by recycling one more thing.

Recycle Week 2008

Recycle Week 2008 kicks off on June 2.

The event is in its fifth year, and is organised and funded by WRAP, in partnership with recycling organisations British Glass, Corus, Novellis, Paper Chain and Recoup.  Recycle Week is also supported by many local authorities, including Oxford City Council.

This year's theme is 'Just one more thing we can recycle'.  Throughout the week, we will be highlighting ideas to help Oxford residents recycle just one more thing.  Come visit our stalls around town this week for some ideas:

When?  Where?
Monday 2nd June  Templar's Square, Cowley
Tuesday 3rd June  Templar's Square, Cowley
Wednesday 4th June Gloucester Green Market
Thursday 5th June Farmer's Market, Gloucester Green
Friday 6th June Town Hall, St Aldate's

Can't come see us?  Here are a few ideas to help you recycle one more thing:

Are you taking full advantage of your blue box?

Recycle a shampoo bottle and you'll save enough energy to power a light bulb for three hours.

Recycle your aluminium foil, and you'll use only 5% of the energy (and produce only 5% of the carbon emissions) that would be used in making new aluminium.

Pop your toilet and kitchen roll tubes in your box and you'll use 25% less energy than would be used in making cardboard from virgin pulp (not to mention saving trees!).

Remember to put your envelopes in your box (after reusing them for your shopping lists).

Are you taking full advantage of your green box?

Recycle your glass jam jars and you'll save enough energy to power your computer for 25 minutes.

For more information about what you can put in your blue and green box visit our What goes in which container? page.

Are you taking full advantage of your garden waste bag?

Don't forget to put your cut flowers in your bag, or compost them at home.

For more information about garden waste visit our composting page.

Already do all this?

Here are some other things you can recycle around Oxford:

Did you know you can now recycle your drinks cartons (Tetrapack) at 5 locations around Oxford? Bring them to Union Street car park (off Cowley Road), Tesco retail park, Mill Road (Wolvercote), Ferry Sports Centre, and Redbridge Waste and Recycling Centre.

You can now recycle small electrical items at Waste and Recycling Centres around Oxfordshire, including Redbridge.  Bring everything from kettles to cookers, mobiles to microwaves, TVs to toasters. Find out more at the Oxfordshire County Council website.

Batteries and low energy lightbulbs should not be thrown in with your regular rubbish.  Bring them to Redbridge as well to recycle. Find out more at the Oxforshire County Council's A to Z of recycling.

Bring items you no longer use (clothing, shoes, books, CDs and DVDs, crockery, etc.) to your local charity shop.  Help a good cause while keeping waste out of landfill!

Have questions about our recycling service?  Give us a ring or send us an email.
