Welcome to Oxford

Health and Safety Training

The Environmental Health Service provides Health and Safety training by Officers from the department.

A programme of courses accredited by the Chartered Institute of Environmental Health (CIEH) are offered by the Council:

  • Level 2 Award in Health and Safety in the Workplace (certificate) 

A one day course covering the basic requirements of health and safety in the   workplace

  • Foundation food hygiene certificate 

A one day course covering the basic requirements for safe food handling. It is suitable for those persons who directly handle open food.

  • Intermediate food hygiene certificate 

A three day course designed for catering supervisors and managers who have responsibility for overseeing the catering operation.

  • Advanced food hygiene certificate 

A five day course designed for senior managers and owners of food businesses who require an in depth knowledge of food hygiene control measures.

Planned Health and Safety Courses

Chartered Institute of Environmental Health (CIEH) Level 2 Award in Health and Safety in the Workplace

Course content:

  • Session 1: Introduction to Health and Safety and Health and Safety Law
  • Session 2: Health and Welfare
  • Session 3: Safety
  • Session 4: The Workplace and Workplace environment
  • Session 5: Risk Assessment, manual handling and hazardous substances
  • Session 6: Ergonomics, working at height, transport and noise and vibration

The course is aimed at those in the workplace who are involved in Health and Safety activities in the workplace, e.g. shop floor employees, front line staff, employees in production or services, Union or staff representatives.

We are also able to arrange courses tailor-made to suit your particular requirements.

Courses are also available through Health and Safety Consultancies and through local community colleges.
