Gritting and salting

Winter snow and ice on the city landscape may look nice but it can be dangerous, especially on roads and footpaths. To reduce the likelyhood of accidents, slips and falls City Works use a salt and grit mix which we spread on all vulnerable surfaces when conditions require it.

City Works carry out winter road maintenance and gritting on our behalf from November through to March annually. The roads are treated according to the weather forecast for each night. We also maintain grit bins alongside roads in Oxford. We can undertake private gritting work for businesses. Quotations are available on request.
