Sustainable Buildings AwardWhat is the David Steel Sustainable Buildings Award?The David Steel Sustainable Buildings Award from Oxford City Council aims to recognise leading sustainable building developments in Oxford. This award is nominated in memory of our dear colleague David Steel, who made a valuable contribution to the City Council and the Climate Change Action Team. Developments are assessed on the level and quality of the environmentally friendly solutions incorporated. The judging panel includes Councillors, and experts from the City Council. How do I nominate a development for the 2008 award?Nominations for the 2008 award are now closed. The winner will be announced soon. What is the City Council expecting from candidates?We want to encourage higher standards of energy efficiency and the use of renewable energy in developments. We are aiming to achieve this through the implementation of planning policies, including the Natural Resources Impact Analysis Supplementary Planning Document
For developments to be considered for the award they must demonstrate that they have exceeded the requirements from existing Building Regulations and planning policy documents. 2007 Winner
The 2007 winning development is the Ruth Deech Building, St. Annes College in Woodstock Road. The award and a plaque was presented to Martin Jackson, bursar of St. Anne's College, in March 2008 at the Town Hall. 2006 WinnerThe 2006 winning development was 34 East Street in Osney Island, Oxford. The award was presented to Mr David Hammond, who is both the owner and architect.
