Oxford City Council
How and Why We ConsultHow does Oxford City Council consult with the people of Oxford? We use a variety of methods to consult with you: Talkback (Oxford's Citizens Panel)Talkback consists of 1,000 people from across the city. It was set up as a way to keep the Council informed about public opinion. The panel regularly share their views and ideas on a range of topics. Panel members are sent 4 questionnaires per year. Panel members are also invited to attend focus groups or workshops on particular issues they are interested in. If you are interested in joining Talkback please contact us or fill in our online Talkback Panel Registration Form. Electronic and Online ConsultationWe are investigating the use of online forms and interactive ways of consulting with you. Talkback surveys are now available online. Focus GroupsWhen we need to gain a greater appreciation and understanding of how local people feel about a particular issue, we organise focus groups. These groups consist of about eight people who discuss issues in much more depth. Why does Oxford City Council consult with the people of Oxford? We want to work in partnership with you, the people of Oxford, to improve the city and consultation is at the heart of this partnership. Effective consultation provides us with vital information about how we can meet the diverse needs of people living, studying, working and visiting the city. By getting involved in local affairs, you can influence decisions about public services. This can result in improvements in the quality of life for local communities. Consultation also strengthens local democracy by encouraging a closer relationship between decision-makers and the people affected by their decisions. We believe consultation is vital to the creation of sustainable communities. Page last reviewed 14 May 2008
