Finance

This part of our website gives you information about how we plan and manage our finances.

You can find information about how much we intend to spend, where we get the money from and our plans to invest in major building and improvement (capital) schemes. This information is set out in our spending plans and income pages.

We currently plan three years ahead for most things, we produce a detailed yearly budget that runs from 1 April to 31 March each year.

Our statement of accounts set out what we have spent in previous years and must be produced no later than three months after the end of each financial year. These can be found on our financial performance pages.

The information we produce is audited. Our external auditor is the Audit Commission. They publish studies on our financial management and broader performance issues. The Commission also produce data comparing our costs with other authorities.

We produce monthly internal reports for our managers and elected Councillors. These reports show how much we have spent and gives information about our broader financial performance ranging from how much money is owed to us, to what rate of interest we are generating on our investments. This information can be found on our on our audit pages.

The Chartered Institute Of Public Finance and Accountancy (CIPFA) are the leading professional accounting body that specialises in public finance. CIPFA set the rules that the Council must follow when producing accounts.
