Sexual Health

Sexual Health is an extremely important issue and one which you should not ignore or be embarrassed about. Sexually transmitted infections and pregnancy can have a huge impact on your life and the lives of others around you.

Where can I find out more information about sexually transmitted infections, contraception and sexuality?

Visit the Sexual Health section of the Common Health Questions on the NHS Direct website for information about sexually transmitted infections, sex and sexuality, and problems with sex.

Visit the Contraception section of the Common Health Questions on the NHS Direct website for information about condoms, the contraceptive pill and other contraceptive methods and issues.

Where can I go to get my sexual health checked and get advice about sexual issues?

Oxford's Genitourinary Medicine (sexual health) Clinic is based at the Churchill Hospital in Headington. Also know as the Harrison Clinic, they provide a range of sexual health services including contraception, pregnancy testing, sexually transmitted infections testing, HIV services and free condoms.

The Harrison Clinic also provides a service for younger people called, The Wellsafe Clinic. This service, for people up to 18 years old, is a walk in clinic each Wednesday from 3.30pm - 6pm. Visit the Wellsafe Clinic website for more information.

For a comprehensive bank of information about services in Oxford, visit the Family Planning section of the Oxfordshire NHS website.

The Oxfordshire family planning service is based at the Alec Turnbull Clinic in Cowley, Oxford. They offer contraceptive advice and time to talk, particularly around sensitive issues like pregnancy and sexually transmitted diseases. People are seen on a 'drop-in' basis so you do not have to be referred by a doctor or nurse. Visit the Family Planning section of the Oxfordshire Primary Care Trust website for more information.
