The Oxford Nightsafe scheme began in 2004 and was set up to tackle alcohol related anti-social behaviour in Oxford City centre. The initiative has now been extended to include East Oxford. We work with a number of partners including Thames Valley Police, OX1 - Oxford City Centre Management Company, taxi firms, bus companies and local pub/club owners to help make Oxford a safer and more enjoyable place to go out. Visit the Nightsafe website for more information and for your premises to become a member of the scheme.
Nightsafe has been at the forefront of introducing a large number of initiatives to tackle alcohol related problems in the City centre including the Star Rating scheme, Drug Dog searches, the Radio Link and CCTV schemes, the 'Yellow Card' warning scheme and a number of other educational campaigns.
Visit the Nightsafe Initiatives page to see exactly what has been done to help tackle alcohol related problems in Oxford.
Visit the Staying Safe page of the Nightsafe website for personal hints and tips on staying safe in Oxford at night. You will find information on what to do before going out, what to do when you're out and about, tips on safer drinking, what to do if you are out on a date with someone new, and staying safe on your way home.
